Roots and Branches is a partnership between Yonkers Public Library (YPL) and Municipal Housing Authority City of Yonkers (MHACY) that seeks to reduce barriers to library access. Roots and Branches establishes small, curated onsite collections of YPL books at MHACY locations that are regularly refreshed and updated. These books can be taken home by residents on the honor system – they do not need to be checked out, and they do not accrue fines. YPL librarians work with MHACY service coordinators to identify books, services and resources that interest MHACY residents.  Bookshelves will soon be installed at MHACY sites. Even better news is that residents can sign up for field trips to visit the library once a week courtesy of Yonkers Police Department, who will transport residents to the library by van.  MHACY is hoping to hold the first field trips by the end of the month. Residents interested in participating should contact their service coordinators to sign up.
