YONKERS, NY (March 2022) – The Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY) has begun welcoming families who are moving into newly renovated apartments at the Calcagno Homes complex.

The 238-unit apartment complex is comprised of three buildings located at 10 Brook Street, 55 School Street and 80 School Street. The apartments range from one-bedroom to four-bedroom units.

“I lived in the Bronx New York City housing, and it was time for a change. I looked over at 80 School Street and fell in love with it. Everybody who comes into the apartment loves the kitchen. It’s so spacious. I love the whole setup of the apartment. I have seven grandchildren and it has a nice play area for the youngest ones and my oldest can’t wait to take advantage of the gymnasium here,” said new Calcagno Homes resident Sheila Jenkins.

“The experience here has been wonderful. My two daughters love it. This is like heaven to me right now. I’m loving it,” said new Calcagno Homes resident Tiffany Jenkins.

“We are absolutely thrilled to begin moving in families who will now enjoy their beautifully renovated apartments with fabulous amenities, services and 24/7 security. The quality of the finishes in the kitchens and baths are amazing,” said MHACY President and CEO Wilson Kimball. She said residents will be moving in through May.

The nearly $50 million rehabilitation project, which began three years ago, includes new kitchens, baths and floors in the units and new entry doors, light fixtures, and elevators in the common areas. Five percent of the units are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Exterior work included new roofs, exterior doors, brick repair and landscaping.

Calcagno Homes offers residents many amenities including a newly renovated gymnasium, community room, laundry room, and on-site parking. All apartments are cable and Verizon Fios ready. The complex is a gated community that offers controlled key access and a 24-hour security service. Utilities are included in the rent.

In addition to these amenities, resident services at Calcagno Homes include an affordable afterschool program and a summer camp program. The complex also offers a free monthly food pantry and supportive services referrals are available through a collaboration with The Family Service Society for the City of Yonkers.

The Calcagno rehabilitation project is part of the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program which allows MHACY to ensure the long-term quality, viability and sustainability of its housing stock by investing millions of dollars in rehabilitation projects. MHACY has rehabilitated more than 1,700 units of rental housing through the RAD program.
